The Aragon-based company ARPA is part of the programme designed to familiarise European representatives with the region’s industrial potential and the strategic role of defence.
ARPA welcomed diplomatic representatives from the European Union to its premises as part of a three-day institutional visit to Aragón by the 26 ambassadors of the Member States accredited in Spain. The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the delegation to an industrial model based on in-house engineering, manufacturing and systems integration. Founded in 1968 and wholly privately owned by Spanish investors, the company develops turnkey modular and deployable engineering projects, from requirements analysis and design through to manufacturing, installation, training and maintenance.

The initiative, spearheaded by Ireland’s Ambassador to Spain, Brian Glynn, forms part of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union this half-year. Its aim is to gain an understanding of the economic and social transformation of Aragon, to exchange experiences and to strengthen cooperation with Member States. Glynn highlighted how the region’s strengths align with the priorities of this presidency: competitiveness, values and security.
During the official reception at the Pignatelli building, the President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, emphasised the strategic importance of defence for Europe and described it as ‘an opportunity for Aragon’. ‘We want to be part of that ecosystem’, he stated. Defence, alongside the automotive sector and data centres, featured prominently in the presentation of the region’s economic attractions and in the programme of business visits, which included ARPA.

The visit to ARPA’s facilities has extended this institutional dialogue to the business sphere, providing an opportunity to showcase the company’s work from Aragón. Its participation in the programme raises the profile of the equipment it develops as part of its industrial capabilities linked to the defence sector.

The visit highlights the contribution of Aragonese industry to the development of strategic European capabilities. In this field, ARPA brings engineering expertise, in-house manufacturing and international experience to transform complex operational requirements into comprehensive solutions. Its presence in over 70 countries and its involvement in European R&D&I projects underpin an industrial model that combines technological specialisation and operational capability, serving the defence, security, healthcare and emergency response sectors.
